While social media is the place for fans to root for their favourite actors and promote their films, the war between fan clubs of different actors can often get toxic. In a recent conversation, acclaimed director Mani Ratnam addressed the fan wars between Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar on social media and called such debates on social media ‘a random roadside argument.’

Mani Ratnam appeared at a round table discussion at Galatta Plus, along with directors like Vetrimaaran, Sudha Kongara, Mari Selvaraj, Madonne Ashwin, and PS Vinothraj. Speaking about fan club wars on social media, Mani shared, “Social media has the privilege of anonymity so people are just spitting venom. It is only negativity that comes from there. Now, you told me that in Thirunelveli and Nagercoil people are not talking about the box office collection of the film but discussing if the film is good or not, now that you have told me. I am very happy about it.”

He added, “So a debate on social media. If it is a serious platform where it is being debated, then you can have your opinion. But this (debate that) ‘I like Ajith, I like Vijay’ doesn’t make any sense.” Trisha, who has worked with both Vijay and Ajith, liked the videos of Mani Ratnam from the panel discussion.
