Karan Johar puts Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan on the spot, asks, ‘Why are you not friends?’ | Bollywood News

Actors Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan made their Bollywood debuts in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year over a decade ago, and they appeared together on the latest episode of the filmmaker’s chat show, Koffee with Karan. Karan took the opportunity to ask them point-blank why they aren’t friends, a suggestion that neither of them denied.

Karan asked, “The two of you have had so much in common. You’ve assisted on a film, debuted with the same film, why is it that you’re not friends?” Sidharth said that it is difficult for two actors to be friends unless they’ve grown up together. That being said, Sidharth claimed that it doesn’t take too long for him and Varun to get back to where they left off whenever they meet now. “Whenever we meet at a party, even recently, the first line doesn’t have to be about hi, hello, how are you, it becomes about something else,” he said.

Varun tried to give a measured response to Karan’s question, and said, “Why is it we’re not friends? We’re not enemies either. We’re always going to be bonded. It happens in films. When you work a lot with people, you just end up spending more time with that person. Your life becomes connected because of that. I think maybe me and Sid have spoken more frequently because I happened to work with his now spouse, Kiara. So, automatically the topics come up.”

He added, “It’s not only me, my family is very fond of Sid. Whether it’s dad, whether it’s Rohit. Rohit loves Sid a lot. In fact, when they meet, they have a great time by themselves.” Sidharth and Varun starred in Student of the Year alongside Alia Bhatt. All three of them have worked with Karan several times subsequently, but while Alia has worked with both Sidharth and Varun separately, the two men have never worked with each other again.
