An Australian man was detained by police after he ran to the pitch at the Narendra Modi stadium wearing a T-shirt that said ‘Free Palestine’ and ‘Stop bombing Palestine’, and almost hugged Virat Kohli at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final on Sunday.

The incident that caught the security personnel off guard happened during the 15th over and just hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to arrive at the stadium in Ahmedabad.

The man, identified as Wen Johnson, wore a mask of the Palestine flag. He was taken by security personnel to the Chandkheda police station in Ahmedabad for questioning.

Sources told The Indian Express that Johnson was a TikTok prankster and “has a history of intruding matches”. He is also said to be a big fan of Kohli.
