A week after the release of the first song, titled “Badhte Chalo“, the makers of Meghna Gulzar’s Vicky Kaushal-starrer Sam Bahadur have unveiled another powerful track, “Banda”, which is like an ode to the “unstoppable” Field marshal Sam Manekshaw.

The 126-second music video opens with scenes of Manekshaw (Vicky Kaushal) undergoing rigorous training in his early days. As the song unfolds, glimpses from various phases of his life are depicted, showcasing his charisma and unwavering determination. The lyrics, meanwhile, highlight his silent yet resolute approach: “[He] doesn’t listen, nor does he talk; he simply continues to do [what needs to be done].”

The video also offers a sneak peek into Manekshaw’s personal life, featuring moments with his wife Silloo Manekshaw (Sanya Malhotra), and a conversation between “India’s greatest soldier” and the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi (Fatima Sana Shaikh).

Composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy trio, Banda has been penned by Gulzar and sung by Shankar Mahadevan. Written by Bhavani Iyer, Shantanu Shrivastava and Meghna Gulzar, the film is bankrolled by Ronnie Screwvala under the banner of RSVP Movies.

Sam Bahadur’s trailer, which the makers released a fortnight ago, had shown Sam Manekshaw’s exceptional leadership and the formidable challenges he faced. The first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal, Manekshaw played a pivotal role in India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, leading to the creation of Bangladesh.

Festive offer

The film also stars Neeraj Kabi, Edward Sonnenblick, Govind Namdev and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in key roles. Sam Bahadur is slated for release on December 1, alongside Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal.

During the trailer launch event of the film, Kaushal opened up about the film’s team paying attention to every minute detail about the late military officer’s life.

He also shared that during the shoot of the film, he met the officers of the Indian Army, who were happy about him doing the film, but ‘scared’ him in equal measure by reminding him how important Sam Manekshaw is to them.
