As the whole of India sits down today to watch the nation’s team take on Australia in the final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the day has – in a rare occurrence – even managed to bring together the two biggest rival political parties of the country, the BJP and the Congress.
The official handle of the BJP on X, formerly Twitter, wished India luck for the final. “Come on Team India! We believe in you!” it wrote.
Reposting the tweet, the official account of the Congress party said, “True that! JEETEGA INDIA (INDIA will win).” Incidentally, the word INDIA is also an acronym for the alliance of the Opposition parties led by the Congress. The 28-party bloc is called the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance.

“Congress and BJP uniting for the first time and it’s for Team India,” a user commented. “Hence proved, cricket unites the nation,” said another. “No one is getting the context here “INDIA”,” wrote a third. “Crossover we didn’t expect,” another person said.
One user even posted a photo of Ram and Raavan together to show the unity displayed by the two political rivals.

Earlier, British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis took to X to talk about his act of “unfathomable stupidity” as he chose to fly during the match.
Ellis also called Australia’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss “almost as unwise” as his act. “In an act of almost unfathomable stupidity, I have chosen to fly during the #INDvsAUSfinal – a decision almost as unwise as winning the toss and choosing to bowl?” he posted.
