Ever since Australia beat India by six wickets in the final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, many Indian fans have despicably targeted the players and their family members on social media by posting unsavoury comments.

Another addition to this list is Adam Zampa, and no we are not talking about the 31-year-old Australian leg spinner who finished the tournament as the second-highest wicket-taker with 23 scalps in 11 matches. A ski racer from Slovakia, who is a namesake of the Australian cricketer, saw his Instagram posts being flooded with abusive comments after India’s loss.

A video that he posted on Instagram that shows him flying a small aircraft was met with a hostile reaction from a section of distraught Indian fans.

They expressed their disappointment that Zampa took the catch that dismissed India opener Shubman Gill.

“Here for the comments who do not know that he’s not the Australian cricketer,” a user posted on his video. “Guys relax, he is not a cricketer, you all after a wrong person,” said another.

“Hi Adam. Sorry you’re seeing all this. Just for context there’s an Australian cricket player called Adam Zampa. So certain uneducated idiots mistook you for the cricket player don’t ask how. Just enjoy the entertainment and I apologize for the language used brother all love! Take care!” another person wrote.

Zampa picked up one wicket for 44 runs in 10 overs in the final. After restricting India to 240, Australia chased down the target in 43 overs with six wickets in hand, courtesy a tremendous century by opener Travis Head (137 runs off 120 balls) and an unbeaten 50 by Marnus Labuschagne (58 off 110 balls). The victory propelled Australia to a record-extending sixth World Cup title.
