Toronto residents rent half a bed amidst soaring real estate prices | Trending News

In response to Toronto‘s escalating housing market crisis, residents are resorting to unprecedented measures, including renting half of their beds to strangers.

The housing desperation is driven by soaring property rates, with the average cost of a one-bedroom property in Toronto reaching $2,614(Rs 1,59,299) per month. Faced with such exorbitant prices, residents are exploring unconventional living arrangements, such as sharing a bed, to alleviate financial strain.

Originally a lone plea on TikTok by Toronto-based realtor Anya Ettinger, it led to the discovery of a jaw-dropping Facebook post (now removed) advertising half a bed for a whopping 900 Canadian dollars per month (equivalent to over Rs 54,000), reports WION.

The deleted post mentioned, “Seeking an easy-going female to share the master bedroom and the Queen-sized bed. I’ve successfully shared the room with a previous Facebook-found roommate, and it worked out perfectly!”

The information indicates that Toronto is not alone in adopting such measures. Reports suggest that the practice of “hot bedding,” or sharing a bed with strangers to reduce rent costs, is gaining traction beyond Toronto.

Festive offer

In a meme post shared by @memzar, users went on to comment with humor and concern at the same time. One user mentioned, “This is either a horror, romance or comedy. Take your chances ig,” and a second user wrote, “An all inclusive stay,” while a third commented, “Someone should definitely write a romance novel about this”.
